What is your role at Med Supply?
I am the lab supervisor, and I do all of the fabrication of prosthetics and orthotics.
How long have you been at Med Supply?
For about nine months now.
Were you previously working in prosthetics?
Yes, I had worked at the University of Michigan previously for about three and a half years. As well as another company before that for about two years.
What led you to working with prosthetics?
It kind of just happened. I was originally going to Baker College for occupational therapy. I finished all of my prerequisites and got to the introductory courses for it and hated it. After that I tried out nursing and I hated that. So I sat down with a career councilor to really figure out what I like doing and what I wanted to do, after hearing about my interests she suggested that I try out the O&P program and I loved it.
Are you personally excited about anything happening at Med Supply?
We’re expanding, we’re getting a lot more business. I’m very excited to see the new types of work that come in with the new doctors that we get on.
What has been your favorite part about working at Med Supply so far?
I think just working with a group of people where everybody respects each other. It creates a really positive work environment.
How did you come to work at Med Supply?
I had been looking to move on from the University of Michigan so I started up a LinkedIn account. I started posting some of the work that I did and the posts gained a lot of popularity. From there, someone from Med Supply reached out to me and asked if I was looking for employment. I took the interview and got the job!
Do you have a favorite project you’ve done at Med Supply?
Yeah! I did a socket that had a rhinestone butterfly design for a patient. It was a t-shirt she brought in that she really liked and I got to make a custom color on the interior of the socket to match the shirt she wanted displayed on the outside. It was pretty fun.
