“About 1 in 4 US adults (23.7%) or about 58.5 million people have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. Arthritis is more common in women (23.5%) compared with men (18.1%), more common among adults with fair/poor health (40.5%) compared with those who have excellent/very good health (15.4%), and less common among adults who meet physical activity recommendations (18.1%) compared with adults who are insufficiently active or inactive (23.1% and 23.6%, respectively). Arthritis prevalence increases with age.” – CDC
Paul Bode, Director of Business Development and Marketing at MedSupply answered some questions about how Walking Aids can be an asset to those with arthritis below.
Does everyone at a certain age need a Walking Aid?
Not necessarily, but they can be very helpful with providing users that may be affected by arthritis or other medical conditions the ability to regain some level of independence.
How does a Walking Aid help clients with arthritis?
Walking aids can help the user feel more secure in day-to-day activities and also provide some relief from daily pains.
Which products would you recommend for someone with arthritis?
We stock a wide variety of Mobility products. The most appropriate product depends on where the arthritis is affecting the patient. Usually we recommended starting with a Single Point Cane or a Two Wheeled Walker. These Mobility items can help assist with day to day activities and provide the user with additional confidence where arthritis might be affecting them.
What size Walker do you recommend for clients with arthritis?
Walkers come in two different sizes, Standard and Bariatric. We can assess any potential customer for the safest and most appropriate item for them.
When do you recommend the Rollator Walker with Seat?
We recommend Rollator Walkers to patients that can display the ability to safely use them. One of the benefits of a Rollator Walker is the built-in seat. This provides the user with the ability to take rest breaks when needed. These particular walkers also have the feature of having hand brakes. This is a beneficial feature but we do make sure that the user can use them without difficulty.
